Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Significant Control Tower IT Issue
Air travel have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a significant air traffic control outage halted all operations.
All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped because of an IT issue that arose around 08:30.
Some passengers were left waiting in jets at the stand as the outage continued.
Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays
Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".
Nonetheless, considerable delays are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with many others subject to postponements.
An airport representative had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.
"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the latest information on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.
Source of the Issue
The airport attributed the operational halt to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.
Flyers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as knock-on effects are worked through.
